Norwegian-Dutch soprano Kari Postma launched her early stage career as both a dancer and a singer. But her devotion to the operatic stage seemed inevitable, as she won First Prize in the Queen Sonja Competition, Second Prize and Prize of the Leipzig Opera in Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition and First Prize in Phillips International Music Competition.

Shortly after, she accepted the position as member of the soloist ensemble at the Hamburg State Opera, performing a comprehensive list of leading parts in operas ranging from Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti to Puccini, Richard Strauss, Weber and Verdi. In recent years, Kari Postma has dedicated her career to the increasing demand for guest appearances on international stages such as Volksoper Wien, Komische Oper Berlin, Norwegian Opera & Ballet, Royal Danish Theatre, Danish National Opera, Netherlands Reisopera, Malmö Opera and at Bergen International Festival.

Recent roles include Katja Kabanova, Tosca, La Wally, Violetta, Tatiana, Mimi, Leonora (Trovatore), Marschallin, Senta, Countess (Figaro), Rosalinde and Hanna Glawari. Despite her opera commitments, Kari Postma remains devoted to concert performances, mastering a broad repertoire of the Requiems by Verdi, Mozart and Brahms, Vier Letzte Lieder by Richard Strauss, Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder, songs by Schubert, Sibelius and Grieg, as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Missa Solemnis and Symphonies Nos. 2 and 4 by Mahler – works she has performed with orchestras around the world, such as Hong Kong Philharmonic, Netherlands Philharmonic, Philharmonic State Orchestra of Hamburg, Symphony Orchestra, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Oslo Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Trondheim Symphony, Copenhagen Phil, Aarhus Symphony, Odense Symphony and Malmö Symphony.

She has been privileged to be accompanied by distinguished conductors such as Simone Young, Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Paul McCreesh, Thomas Søndergård, Alexander Shelley, Stefan Soltesz, Peter Schreier, Alexander Verdernikov, Nicholas Collon, Marc Piollet, Alexander Soddy and Lars Ulrik Mortensen.
