Emilia Utter
Swedish soprano Emilia Utter made her operatic debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2016, aged 20, as Yniold in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, directed by Keith Warner.
In spring 2026, she returned to the Royal Swedish Opera as Mary in Franz Schreker’s Der ferne Klang, directed by Christof Loy and conducted by John Fiore and in the summer, she sang Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore with Eskilstuna Moderna Operan, directed by Andrea Hagman.
In autumn 2024, Utter sang the leading role of Elsalill in Herr Arnes penningar at Folkoperan. In June 2026, she recorded the role with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra under Peter Nordahl for a forthcoming album release.
Further operatic engagements to be mentioned include the title role in Grétry’s Lucile with Drottningholm’s Baroque ensemble under Mark Tatlow and Ava in Löftet at the Royal Swedish Opera. In recognition of her portrayal of Ava, she was awarded the Royal Swedish Opera’s Hedbergska debutantstipendiet in 2024. In 2023, she made her Folkoperan debut in Malin Bång’s Judith.
On the concert platform, Emilia has appeared at the Konzerthaus Berlin with the O/Modernt Orchestra and at Konserthuset Stockholm with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under Peter Nordahl. In 2016, she toured Switzerland as a soloist with the South African MIAGI Orchestra, conducted by Duncan Ward. She has also collaborated with the Flen World Orchestra, which brings together musicians from different cultural and musical traditions.
Alongside her opera and concert engagements, Utter develops programmes that explore the relationship between music and other art forms. Since 2013, she has created and performed concerts combining repertoire from different genres with her own songs and arrangements, exploring new approaches to the presentation of classical music. Venues for these projects have included the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
She has performed on several occasions for the Swedish Royal Family, including Queen Silvia’s 80th birthday celebration in 2023 and, at the invitation of HM King Carl XVI Gustaf, at Stenhammar Palace in the summer of 2024.
Utter graduated from the Royal College of Music in London in 2022 with a Master of Performance degree, having studied with the support of the Toeman Weinberger Opera Scholarship. She further developed her work in Baroque repertoire at the Confidencen Opera & Music Academy in 2020 and 2021.
Her awards include the Eugen Hedberg Scholarship and two youth scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, followed by the Academy’s Larsén-Todsen Scholarship in 2023. That same year, she received Sörmland’s cultural scholarship.
