Love Derwinger - Instrumentalist - Piano

Love Derwinger is one of Sweden’s foremost pianists.

He made his debut at the age of 16 as a soloist in Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto and has since performed in Europe, the USA, Canada, Japan, the Middle East, and South America, as well as participated in many prestigious festivals worldwide. He has been a soloist with several of the leading Scandinavian orchestras, as well as with e.g. the Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Residentie Orkest in The Hague, Radio Philharmonie Hannover des NDR, Philharmonia Orchestra, and has collaborated with conductors such as Myung-Wung Chung, Jun’ichi Hirokami, Paavo Järvi, Lev Markiz, Vassily Sinaiski, and Leif Segerstam.

He is one of the very few pianists who has mastered the demanding solo part in Xenakis’ Third Piano Concerto, Keqrops.

Love is known for his versatility, alternating between solo performances, chamber music, contemporary music, and Lieder. For many years, he regularly toured with Barbara Hendricks.

He has made over 50 CD recordings (BIS, cpo, Arte Verum, Brilliant Classics, among others) that showcase stylistic breadth and a vast repertoire, ranging from critically acclaimed interpretations of piano concertos by Grieg, Stenhammar, Atterberg, and Reger to chamber music and romances.

Love has been the artistic director of several music festivals, including the Chamber Music Week in Grythyttan and the summer festival Concerti dal tramonto on Capri. He was also one of the initiators and artistic director of the Stockholm Piano Festival in 2015, which featured 40 Swedish pianists.

Derwinger is also an author, and his books Godnatt and Föredraget – En anakronistisk intervju med Bach have both been widely praised. His latest book, Freud i Gult, was released in November 2023.
